Dear Hollywood: Please do not F*k up Ender’s Game

Chartoff Productions is looking for a director for Ender’s Game. It was supposed to be Wolfgang Petersen (Das Boot, Outbreak) which would have been pretty amazing but that has fizzled. Supposedly, they will begin filming in early 2009. I can only hope they find good child actors (I know they exist) to play Ender, Bean and the rest. The Harry Potter folk did a decent job of it but EG is an all-kid story which means you can’t pad your movie with every famous BBC actor ever.

Fun reading: Orson Scott Card’s take on JK Rowling’s lawsuit: “Um JK, didn’t you kind of rip off Ender’s Game?” (Except that they’re all the same damn story anyway)

    Wow… Card is pissed.

    And Ender’s Game The Movie is gonna suck, face up to that fact now and maybe (just maybe) when it comes out, it’ll be watchable and we’ll all enjoy it. Lowered expectations are the key to a happy life.

    Yeah I’ll probably go see it. Just like I’ll probably end up renting The Golden Compass and the Dark Is Rising. Hell, I watched Eragon.

    But did you watch Eragon with or without Rifftrax support?

    Also, the biggest problem I had with this movie? It’s about dragons, and the damn kids name is simply ‘Dragon’ but with the ‘D’ replaced by the next letter in the alphabet… kinda sums up how completely unimaginative this movie (and, I assume, the book) is.
